In many rural areas a growing demand for emergency medical services exists.  Thanks to community support, Fire District #2 is able to meet and exceed that demand.

Doniphan County Rural Fire District#2 EMS Company provides  Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services for western  Doniphan County, some 270 square miles.  The company is led by Director Ken Stewart, MICT, Training Officer and his command staff.  The department responded to 282 calls in 2004 and boasted an average response time of 1.6 minutes. The Company operates from one station in Highland with 5 fire support stations  throughout two districts.  DCRFD#2 EMS Company works closely with those fire departments during medical emergencies, auto extrication, aero medical evacuations, fires, and rescue operations.  The EMS Company provides emergency services for large area events including the White Cloud Rodeo, HCC football games and  provides Intensive Care Transports for area hospitals.
